NIGERIAN
NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION
Progress
through sustained growth.
The Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation is the public
organisation set up by the government in 1977 to
manage all aspects of the Nigerian Petroleum
Industry.
Its principal industrial objectives are to
increase the nation's refining capacity,
distribution and gas utilisation and to carry
out petrochemical development projects .Since
NNPC bridges the gap between the public and private
sectors , it is in an ideal position to promote
projects which will result in a stronger.
Oil industry overall for Nigeria , ensuring
that growth in the sector is sustainable
and routed in sustainable , long term
strategic planning.
Progress
through change
It is well known that oil
and gas are the driving forces of the Nigerian
economy. Whilst it is true that the industry
provides employment for large numbers of local
people , its sheer magnitude means that it
also has an impact on the lives of many who are not
directly connected to it . This impact may be
economic, with the state of health of the
industry being closely linked to the overall
economic welfare of the nation , or environment,
since much structural development in Nigeria is
linked to this crucial sector.
Progress
through community development.
For decades , the industry
has reaped the benefit of the nations
plentiful assets, but it has been obvious for some
time that an enterprise of such
proportions could not be succesful for long
without also keeping local interests firmly in
mind.
More and More ,the industry is seeking to
payback the dividends it reaps by ensuring
that the wealth benefits all Nigerians , not just
those who are trained and work in the gas and oil
sector .
One of NNPC's principal tasks is thus to translate
the profits of the industry into common
capital for all promoting social and community
initiatives.
Numerous infrastructural projects , including new
hospitals and new schools built with financial
backing from the industry, are lasting testimony to
its commitment to invest in the welfare of
local communities .
Sponsorship of electricity and water
supply projects further illustrates its conviction
that industrial development in the oil and gas
sector can be translated into a higher
standard of living for ordinary Nigerians .
These projects are a response to the real need
s of local people day to day , and they are
designed to improve quality of life in the here and
now.
