Location
Kebbi State shares boundaries with Sokoto State
on the North-Eastern axis, Zamfara State on the
Eastern part, Niger state on the Southern part
and Republic of Niger on the Western part.
History
Kebbi State came
into being on August 27, 1991. It was created
out of the old Sokoto State. The capital is
Birnin-Kebbi. Its major towns include
Birnin-Kebbi, Argungu and Yelwa with a
population of 2,062,226.
Agriculture
Agriculture
accounts for a substantial part of the state's
economy. Food crops include guinea corn, rice
and millet while cash crops include groundnut
and cotton. A large percentage of the people are
farmers.
Education
The state has a
total of 303 primary schools and 29 post primary
schools, it also maintains three higher
institutions namely Kebbi State Polytechnic,
Birnin Kebbi, College of Agriculture, Zuru,
School of Health Technology, Jega, a number of
Islamic schools and other centres of Nomadic
Education.
Tourism
There also exist
traditional festivals of note among which are
Argungu fishing festival, Uhola'a Dakarkari and
other cultural festivals. Other places of
interest in Kebbi State are:
- The Girmace
shrine in Zuru and
- Tomb of the
famous Islamic scholar Abdullahi Ibn Dan
Fodio.
