Abuja -> Useful Info

Getting There and Away.

By Air:

While Lagos has the largest airport in Nigeria, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, run by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), is next in importance. It is around 45 kms from the center of Abuja on the highway from Abuja to Gwagwalada. Domestic services connect Abuja to the rest of the country and international services, which are being developed in stages, link the city to major international destinations.

Domestic services are yet to be regularized. At present most of them are operated as shuttle flights with no fixed timing or schedules, taking off when there are a reasonable number of passengers. Only a few services have provision for booking tickets in advance. The general principle is: ‘first come first served'. Travelers are advised to get detailed information on confirmed flights while making travel plans.

By Road:

From Kaduna:

The Kaduna-Zuba Expressway, the road that passes Kubwa and continues to Nyanyan and Keffi, has several offshoots into the Federal Capital City of Abuja. Most of them enter either through the Wuse District or the Maitama District. As the road approaches the city, the Zuma Rock can be seen on the left and the Madalla Market follows it on the right. It continues to the fly over bridge from where a turn to the left connects to the Murtala Mohammed Expressway North.

From Lokoja:

The Lokoja-Kaduna A-2 Federal highway enters Abuja through the Central District after passing Gwaglwalada town and joining the Airport Expressway.

From Lagos:

For travelers from Lagos and the other Western areas of Nigeria, the road passing through Mokwa to llorin, Suleja to Abuja will be more suitable, while the road through Lukoja will be better for those from the Eastern areas.

From Jos:

The road from Jos to Abuja passes through Keffi and Nyanyan before entering the city through the Asokoro District.
